The Feather Duster is a wonderful & fun filled addition to the reef aquarium. As the crown (radiole) which can range in a variety of colors unfurls both to feed and breathe, it appears to almost dance in the current gracefully and rhythmically. We recommend placing the duster in the substrate of your tank.
The radiole of the feather duster is used to filter small floating particulates. The small hairs on the feathers move the particulates towards the mouth of the duster. The duster creates a parchment like shell and in time of need will quickly retract its radiole into the tube out of harms way. The duster can "pop its top" aka discarding its crown which will grow back within 10-14 days on average.
Supplemental feeding of phytoplankton and liquid organic foods should be provided.

My feather duster was in a great state - even opened up in the shipping bag after unpacking. It is now happily secured in my sand substrate and stays open all the time. The crown opens up about 1.5-2" across - very beautiful in my 38-gallon mini reef aquarium. |

Got 3 for my 120. All 3 were "blooming" in their acclimation container! Very healthy, and nicely sized. I love it that they don't go into hiding just because one of the fish swims by...they're out nearly all the time. |
